

Proclamation Establishing an Annual Day
of Honor for Farmers and Veterans
A Proclamation Declaring June 30th as Farmers and Veterans Appreciation Day
WHEREAS, the farmers of the State of Michigan and throughout the United States serve as the
foundation of our nation’s strength by producing the food, resources, and agricultural innovation
necessary to sustain healthy families, vibrant communities, and economic stability; and
WHEREAS, American farmers work tirelessly through uncertainty, changing seasons, economic
hardship, and physical demands to ensure that the people of this nation remain nourished and
secure; and
WHEREAS, the agricultural success of the United States has been built through the dedication
and resilience of people from all backgrounds, including Black, Hispanic, Indigenous, Asian,
immigrant, and other minority farming communities whose contributions have enriched and
strengthened American agriculture despite significant historical barriers; and
WHEREAS, the veterans of the United States Armed Forces have honorably defended the
freedoms, security, and ideals of this nation through courage, sacrifice, and service in times of
war and peace; and
WHEREAS, among these distinguished heroes were the historic Buffalo Soldiers, whose
bravery, discipline, and patriotism helped shape the legacy of military service in America and
inspired generations that followed; and
WHEREAS, many veterans have continued their service to the nation by returning home to work
as farmers, ranchers, business owners, public servants, and community leaders, helping feed
and strengthen the very country they defended; and
WHEREAS, farmers and veterans alike represent the enduring American values of sacrifice,
perseverance, humility, hard work, and service above self; and
WHEREAS, recognizing and celebrating those who protect our nation through military service
and sustain our people through agriculture strengthens national unity, gratitude, and civic pride;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that June 30th of each year shall hereby be recognized
and celebrated as Farmers and Veterans Appreciation Day in the State of Michigan.
BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that this annual observance shall serve as a day to honor the
contributions, sacrifices, and enduring legacy of America’s farmers and veterans, whose
commitment safeguards both the health and security of our nation.
BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that special recognition be given to minority communities
whose contributions have historically strengthened America’s agricultural and military heritage,
including the Buffalo Soldiers and generations of minority farmers whose resilience and
patriotism helped shape the nation.
BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that citizens, schools, civic organizations, businesses,
veterans groups, agricultural organizations, and local communities are encouraged each year
on June 30th to participate in ceremonies, educational programs, acts of service, and
community celebrations honoring farmers and veterans across this nation.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, this proclamation is issued in recognition of the men and women
whose labor feeds our people, whose courage protects our freedoms, and whose service
continues to strengthen Michigan and the United States of America for generations to come.
